RBL CATERING'S STORY
***needs copy*** RBL Catering was founded January 2017 by Jerry L. Stephenson, Jr. and a college buddy who had a crazy idea to start a restaurant based on Jerry’s award winning BBQ. After a few years of conversations over drinks and ribs, the two found a spot in McGee’s Crossroads.

Mercedes Harris is the 40 Under 40 award-winning CEO of RBL Catering + Food Trucks, based in Garner. At 29, she leads a 7-figure catering company that has grown more than 700% - born from Jerry Stephenson’s World Championship BBQ.
In 2024, RBL Catering launched partnerships with organizations across the state including The Carolina Hurricanes and The BBQ Lab’s newest location at PNC Arena. In 6-months, the team has been able to prepare and deliver The Lab’s famous BBQ sandwiches to feed more than 50,000 attendees.
In 2024, Mercedes hopes to continue to grow the business to new heights. She’ll be launching catering programs in new markets and is eager to build more partnerships that highlight women’s sports. She’ll be focusing on building RBL Catering’s wedding imprint and a luxury event rental space and dining experiences at The Lab’s restaurant locations. Harris continues to reside in the Clayton area and focus on leaving the industry a better place than she found it.
